Crime Masters: Doctor Spider

Doctor Spider is a member of the Crime Masters, though that wasn't always the case. He used to be a fairly standard solo villain, often confounding lower level heroes with schemes involving his skills in robotics and biotechnology. But then one day, he was approached by the Widowmaker for a job: to take a group of individuals hand picked by her and turn them into an extraordinary fighting force that she could call on to do her bidding.

Spider took the job, and turned the men and women into what would become known as the Spider Kingdom, a spider-themed group of villains-for-hire. But when his work was done, the leader of the Kingdom, Wolfspider, turned on the Doctor. He felt that Doctor Spider had  not made them as powerful as he could have, and so had reneged on the agreement with Widowmaker. Despite Doctor Spider's protests, the Kingdom attacked him for this perceived slight, and so Doctor Spider went on the run, the Spider Kingdom close behind.

After he exhausted all of his options, Doctor Spider had one last recourse, and called upon an villains he had once partnered with briefly: Captain Winter. Winter was in the middle of forming his own version of the "Crime Masters," an old villainous team up legacy roughly comparable to a villain version of the Allegiance. He agreed to help protect Spider and fight off the Kingdom, on the condition that Doctor Spider join the new Crime Masters. With no other choice, Doctor Spider accepted, and so backed up by the might of the new Crime Masters, the Spider Kingdom were driven off. But even though they were defeated, Wolfspider vowed that this was not over, and that sooner or later the Spider Kingdom would succeed in exacting their vengeance.

For now, Doctor Spider remains with the Crime Masters, and despite frequent attempts, the Spider Kingdom has failed to make good on Wolfspider's promise. It is looking increasingly unlikely that will ever happen, especially now that the Crime Masters has gone from a mere team of villains and expanded into a full on international villain army. But even so, Doctor Spider still remains fearful of what may happen, that Wolfspider could very well finally get his revenge upon him...
