Description

The man once known Ambrosius is immortal and undead, and while he may walk among living men for a time, eventually his nocturnal habits and extraordinary longevity are noticed. As such, over the thousands of years of his existence the father of all vampires has adopted numerous guises and personas to disguise his true nature. In certain circumstances, he even flaunted his vampirism openly. Such was the case with the identity he took in the late 19th Century- the vaguely Eastern European aristocrat "Count Balaur".

As Count Balaur he intentionally invoked many of the pervasive notions about vampires made popular by characters like Dracula (who he had been the basis for via his time as Vlad Dragul and as a boyar that served with Vlad Tepes III by the name of Radu Molasar), Varney, and Lord Ruthven. He used his vast mental powers to cast a wide sphere of influence over various remote regions of Eastern Europe, allowing him to easily set himself up as the dark lord of the area without question, only moving whenever Casca Longinus or one of the many monster hunters discovered him.

However, Count Balaur became a key player in the early days of the emergence of extraordinaries across the world when he became associated with what many consider to be the first modern association of villains, the Black Science Order. As a member of this alliance Balaur was by far its most powerful member, but shared leadership with the supergenius scientist Doctor Thesiger. Balaur was impressed by Thesiger, the first man to do so and resist Balaur's will since Ambrosius' first encounters with Longinus. Together the duo combined their science and sorcery to create schemes neither could perform alone, and they gathered together other horrors of science and mysticism to bolster the ranks of the Order.

By himself and as part of the Order, Count Balaur confronted many of the major heroes of the time, such as Algernon Xidorn, Captain Meteor, the Golden Dawn, and the latest persona of his old nemesis Casca Longinus, then calling himself the "Forever Knight." When the Order parted ways he became embroiled in the events of the second World War, expanding his array of foes in the process. He managed to survive the war, and went on to oppose the Allegiance and Aeon the Archmage.

Count Balaur's last hurrah would be during the Super War. He was one of Malek Khan's elite lieutenants, a position he did not mind as Khan had aptly demonstrated to the father of vampires the greatness of his villainy and prowess. During the War he once again came up against Casca Longinus, this time sporting the superhero persona of the Silver Centurion. Sensing a kind of finality about this particular battle the two threw themselves at each other with all the force they could muster. But the surrounding battles caused them to be separated and badly wounded, to the point where each of them thought that the other was dead.

Balaur limped away from his climactic battle, hardly a victory for him in spite of seemingly slaying his longtime archnemesis. He laid low for the rest of the Super War and through the Skarn Invasion, as he would during times of intense duress for him. Ambrosius cast aside his outdated persona and simply lived in dark peace for a time. But eventually the desire to return to activity came, and when he witnessed the fall of the Soviet Union, Ambrosius saw his chance to come back and renew his old plans and schemes. Thus, Count Balaur died, and eccentric Russian oligarch Vladimir Drakon was born...

Well done! Like Jabroniville said, this guy definitely just screams ''1800s VAMPIRE''. I like everything about him! Fantastic backstory! I love that he looks every bit the stereotype of an European vampire!

I feel like SOMETIMES, it's okay to lean into and embrace stereotypes and have characters who look exactly like what you would expect them to look like!
