Dodekatheon: Hades

Description

And next up are the Dodekatheon, the "Twelve Olympians", aka, the classical Greco-Roman pantheon of gods. The dimensional realm where they reside, that includes their Olympus, as well as Hades, the Elysian Fields, and etc, has been out of dimensional alignment for over two thousand years and is coming back into alignment. This is what leads to Samantha entering it and thus setting off the events that result in her transformation into Thunder Woman.

Depicted isn't the full pantheon, but merely the ones Thunder Woman most regularly interacts with or that play a role in her adventures. Excluded are ones that I have no set role for (Dionysus, Aphrodite, Apollo, etc), or who are antagonists, like Hera and Hephaestus. Herakles has already been posted.

Next is Hades, Lord of the Underworld, god of the dead and riches, and one of the three founding brothers of the pantheon. Contrary to popular myth he is not some evil Satanic figure, nor is he a petty, jealous brother who covets what Zeus and Poseidon preside over. In fact, he's rather quite content, and a nice fellow once you get to know him, if a little brooding at time. Out of the major members of the pantheon he has some of the least direct interaction with Thunder Woman. His key moments with her included helping to rescue Samantha and her colleagues from Tartarus during Samantha's initial encounter with the Olympian dimension, aiding Zeus in bargaining with the Infernal Empress to bring Herakles back to life, and in general being involved whenever Samantha has to deal with Hades' mistress. In fact, the major source of conflict with Hades is the fact that he ultimately serves the Infernal Empress, and so his duty to her sometimes comes into conflict with his devotion to his brothers and family. However, he is able to indirectly help Samantha via setting up a private foundation on Earth as a business front for the Dodekatheon's activities, opening the dimensional paths between dimensions up further, allowing them more ready access to her, and a better ability to deal with situations outside of Olympus.

"Grim Hades" was always a bit feared in Greek Mythology, but not because of his personality, which was generally much more agreeable and fair-minded than either Zeus or Poseidon. So I love that your take on him isn't "Greek Lucifer", and is actually a bit helpful, despite his occasional position working for an antagonistic figure.
